Abstract Lee Saunders Crandall (1887-1969) began his sixty-one year association at the New York Zoological Society's Bronx Zoo in June 1908 as a student keeper in the animal departments, and was thereafter steadily promoted through the ranks, eventually becoming the Zoo's General Curator in charge of mammals and birds in 1943. Abstract The collection holds the professional correspondence, department files, and subject files of Joseph Bell and Donald Bruning and the correspondence of Christine Sheppard. Bell's material documents his time as Curator of Ornithology and Chairman of Ornithology. Bruning held the position of Assistant Curator under Bell and became full Curator following Bell. Abstract William Beebe (1877-1962) was among the earliest of the curatorial staff of the Bronx Zoo, joining the Zoological Park in 1899 as Assistant Curator of Birds. He was Curator of Birds from 1902 through 1918, Honorary Curator of Birds from 1919 to 1962, and founding Director of the Department of Tropical Research.
