Scope and Contents - Series 1
This series consists mostly of James Oliver's professional correspondence dating from his graduate studies at the University of Michigan, his time as an Assistant and Associate Curator at the American Museum of Natural History [AMNH], and his professorship at the University of Florida. The series is split into several alphabetically-arranged subseries based on time period: his Michigan years through WWII (1935-1945), AMNH Assistant Curator (1947-1948), AMNH Associate Curator (1948-1949), and his three years at Univ Fla (1949-1950 and 1950-1951). The correspondents include several of the most prominent names of both academic and zoo and/or museum-based herpetology and vertebrate zoology in the span covered, including Charles M. Bogert, Roger Conant, Helen Thompson Gaige, Arnold Grobman, Norman 'Kibe' Hartweg, M. Graham Netting, Marlin Perkins, Hobart M. Smith, and many more.
