R-S, 1929
Scope and Content
This collection includes records related to Raymond L. Ditmars's role as New York Zoological Society Curator of Herpetology and Curator of Mammalogy between 1925 and 1940 only. The majority of the records concern Ditmars's work in the Department of Herpetology. Included is correspondence with reptile specialists, animal traders, and the interested public, as well as typescripts for publications and radio broadcasts by Ditmars.
Please note that while Raymond Ditmars was an NYZS staff member from 1899 to 1942 and would have accumulated a sizeable quantity of records during that time, this collection includes only a fraction of those records. It is unclear what became of the other documents that Ditmars would have collected during his tenure, but the WCS Archives has no record of their existence despite repeated investigations.
Some additional correspondence to and from Ditmars can be found in WCS Archives Collection 1001 and Collection 1012.
