OLMS Director's Office files borrowed and amended by NYA Assistant Directors [George D. Ruggieri, William S. Flynn, and Uwe Erich Friese], 1974 - 1979

 Series

Scope and Content

This small series includes records that had originally come from the files of George D. Ruggieri, S.J., who was the Associate Director—and later Director—of the New York Aquarium, and also the Director of the Aquarium’s Osborn Laboratories of Marine Sciences. The files, concerning the Aquarium’s 1978 Palau expedition and its Whale and Dolphin Stadium, primarily date from the time of William S. Flynn’s tenure as NYA Assistant Director. They include expedition documents, exhibit sketches and schematics, and correspondence between Flynn, Ruggieri, NYZS Trustee Nixon Griffis (who accompanied Flynn on the Palau expedition), and others. According to documentation in Ruggieri’s collection of NYA and OLMS records (Collection 3008. George D. Ruggieri records, circa 1906-1988 (bulk 1973-1987)), Flynn’s successor in the Assistant Director position, Uwe Erich Friese, borrowed these files from Ruggieri in 1979.
