Scope and Contents

Edited film presented at 1960 NYZS Annual Meeting. David Snow and William Beebe feeding, trapping, color banding, and collecting courting, plumage, and molt data on manakins. Snow with a parabolic microphone used for audio field recording. Ends with William Beebe's face emerging from behind binoculars. "Capturing Rare Birds. in Trinidad. Copyright New York Zoological Society MCMLX. Photographed at the Department of Tropical Research Station at "Simla" by Russ Kinne"--Film credits. "[Dr. Snow's] general survey of bird breeding seasons, particular studies of oilbirds, manakins and humming birds... A film for the 1960 Annual Meeting of the Zoological Society on methods of bird study at Simla, was photographed by Mr. Kinne and prepared by Miss Crane. Similarly, Dr. Snow edited from film exposed at Simla for presentation to the Ethological Conference a motion picture of comparative display in manakins. [This film] was the first of its kind ever made and embodied new techniques of behavior study"--1959 NYZS Annual report, p53-56.
