NYZS/WCS edited films, 1925 - 1996

 Series

Scope and Contents

Series 2 consists of films created by the New York Zoological Society/Wildlife Conservation Society for various public audiences. They reflect a wide range of the organization’s activities between 1925 and 1996; the most prominent subjects are the Bronx Zoo, the New York Aquarium at both Battery Park and Coney Island, and NYZS’s burgeoning conservation efforts. These are final, edited versions of films (as opposed to the unedited footage found in Series 3). The films in Series 2 were created for a variety of purposes: some were intended for fundraising or promotion, others for education, and others for entertainment. The majority appear to be for an adult general public audience, with some films specifically created for NYZS/WCS members. Scripts for some of these films can be found in WCS Archives Collection 2008 (Department of Education. Audio-Visual Office records).
